Deep Freeze Retreat

The Deep Freeze Retreat turned out to be right in sync with the snow and cold; in fact, it is just about the only real Minnesota winter weather we have experienced so far this year. It was a weekend full of outdoor winter activities balanced with indoor time, including vibrant discussions and plenty of tea and hot cocoa. The key verses for the weekend found in John 13 put a focus on learning how to serve others: “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.” (John 13:14-15 ESV)

During the Deep Freeze Retreat, everyone is put on a team to compete with each other as they are learning and demonstrating winter survival skills. The skills included starting a fire with limited resources, building a shelter using what they could find in the woods, and creating an arrowhead by melting tin over the fire to pour into molds they carved out of wood.

“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10 ESV)

“See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.” (1 Thessalonians 5:15 ESV)
